xpath match assertion

I am using xpath match assertion in soapui pro. During a particular iteration of the data loop, if no values exist in a node my assertion fails with error "XPathContains assertion failed for path[declare namespace....]". How can I get soapui pro to not do any validation if a particular expected data is null so that I don't get this error?
