Assinging service endpoint without username/password?

Is it possible to use the "Assign enpoint" function without setting username and password? It just killed all my testcases by overwriting the settings with an empty string   It is often necessary to have security checks, use wrong or no authentication in REST methods so I think that one credentials setting for all testcases is rarely the default case.
