Name Mapping

Question

Hi there ,Currently I'm testing mobile application using test complete and I'm facing some issues while mapping the objects because object's properties keep changing which makes the project fails in some tests .I found the&nbsp; below sentence in an article for smartbear (Reference added below ) :TestComplete offers a&nbsp;Name Mapping&nbsp;feature that allows you to create unique names for processes, windows, controls and other objects. It makes your object names and tests clearer and easier to understand, as well as, independent of all object properties and less prone to errors if the UI changes. No, there is no such way at the moment. (Just wondering how you are going to identify target objects in this case?)

The level of instability is a key.
If UI design of your tested application changes drastically (controls of one type are replaced with controls of another type, overall UI layout has been reworked, etc.) then you have no other way but to create another NameMapping for every such change.

I dont see the mapping criteria for the parent object. Are you able to check the mapping criteria for that parent object which wasn't found and see if either using a wildcard to manage the dynamic values or else changing the property value altogether to a static value helps solve your issue&nbsp;

Its hard to say without seeing what changes in your app or in TC.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
For example; It be using wildcards to manage the dynamic content&nbsp;
&nbsp;

This would be mainly if your using the legacy mobile support option&nbsp;
&nbsp;

If you are using the New (cloud-compatible) mode it may down to a selector changing.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
If this is the case you can add more robust selectors&nbsp;

Hi vinniew ,Thank you for your reply, actually the main challenge I'm facing is that objects don't have unique Id or feature and the application I'm testing is not stable , so My test scenarios need alot of maintenance.I'm wondering if there is a way to map the objects that is indepent of object properties.&nbsp;Thanks,&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

what mobile test mode are you using?
&nbsp;
Legacy or the new cloud compatible one?&nbsp;
&nbsp;
If the mapped ID's are not unique we can wildcard the dynamic values or else if they are completely changing we can map other static properties to recognize that control.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
Id still like to know more about what's mapped in the namemapping, what changes in your app that affects playback(perhaps a log example) and lastly what mode your using for mobile testing.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
This will help tackle the issue and ensure you can create better tests with less maintenance&nbsp;
