By "flag" what do you mean? Notify the person evaluating the log results that something has changed? Log.Message/Warning/Error is really your best bet there. If something has changed, log it so that the person reading the logs can decide if it needs to be acted upon.
Or do you mean doing the actual check in code to do the comparison?
