Win 7 vs. Win XP .NET Open Applications Support (v. 8.70) compatibility issue?

Hi guys,



I'm trying to test a .NET application using the "Record Script" feature in Test Complete v. 8.70.727.7.



I'm noticing that various objects are not recognized when using Window 7 (32 bits, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed) which causes the test to fail.



The test I am performing is passing flawlessly on Windows XP (.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed) using the same version of Test Complete, but fails under Windows 7.



I have also imported the project suite and Test Complete's settings (Tools->Settings->Import/Export Settings) from the one running on Windows XP but with no luck.



Are there any compatibility issues between Test Complete's .NET Open Applications Support (v. 8.70) and Windows 7?



Can anyone help?

    Hi Margaret,



    It seems that changing the method invoke timeout doesn't help.



    Can you tell me if there are any compatibility issues between Windows 7 (with .NET Framework 4.0 installed) and Test Complete v. 8.7?



    If there are such incompatibilities, are there any workarounds for them?

    Hey guys,



    I have the same problem described by Sergiu.

    The same project that works on Windows xp doesn't work on Windows 7.

    Uninstalling .NET 4.0 framework didn't help. Can this be related somehow with the operating system?

    Hi Sergiu and Ionut,


    To help us find out why the problem occurs, could you please run your test on the Windows 7 computer, export the failed test's results to an external file and send this file to us?

    Hi Margaret,



    We are trying to automate a C# application that generates a PDF document which has to be electronically signed. As you will see in the project, we are trying to click the "Sign" button of the PDF in order to open the pop-up menu which reveals the "Sign Document" option and click it. The PDF is viewed with Adobe Reader 9.4 which is called by the application under test.



    These are the cases in which I've tried to do this:



    1. Windows 7 having .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed (comes with OS):

        1.a. The first time I ran it it worked flawlessly.

        1.b. The next times I run the test it failed with "Ambiguous Recognition of Object" (it couldn't find the "Sign" button in the PDF header bar) - please see attached logs "ambiguous_recognition_of_object_logs.zip"



    2. Windows 7 having .NET Framework 4.0 installed:

       2.a. I get a "Overlapping window" error every time I run the test (it couldn't see the "Sign" button in the header although noting was blocking it) - please see attached logs: "overlapping_window_logs.zip". The ignore overlapping window solves the problem but since it's a general project attribute which is applied to the entire project, it doesn't help us much.



    3. Windows XP having .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 4.0 installed passes flawlessly every time.



    This is very important to us because we need to be able to test this in order to buy your product and move on with the testing.

    It is difficult to investigate the problem without the tested application. Could you please send us the application under test and the test project you are using via the Contact Support form?

    Can you think of any compatibility issues between the cases I previously mentioned or any workarounds?

    Hi Sergiu,


    Let's try to solve the problem occurred on Windows 7 having .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed.


    As far as I can see from your test log, the "Ambiguous recognition of the tested object" warning message is posted to the log, because there are several objects in the system that match the recognition attributes of the FrmViewPdf mapped object. To solve the problem, you need to modify the identification properties of the FrmViewPdf object. To do this, open the Name Mapping editor and find FrmViewPdf. Then, add a new property that will help TestComplete identify this object to a set of identification properties of this object, for example, you can add the Index property.     After that, try running your test.

    If the problem still occurs, try to disable the Use native object names for TestComplete object name option and re-record the test.


    If none of the recommendations solves the problem, please send us your project.

    of all thank you for your prompt responses.


    As
    I wrote previously I have the same kind of problems Sergiu has.


    I’m
    struggling to automate a sign process with test complete without any luck so
    far. I’m using PDF Viewer and CIC Sign-It to sign each document manually.


    Please
    find attached a screen shot (“pdfviewer.png”) with the window and the controls
    (marked with a red rectangle) I am trying to access using test complete.


    Every
    time the script tries to click a control fails with the error message “Overlapping
    window”. “There was an attempt to perform an action at point (15,298), which is
    overlapped by another window.”


    As
    you see from the attached screen shot (pdfviewer.png), the window and controls
    are not overlapped by any other windows and at least theoretically can be
    clicked.


    I
    tried to identify each control individually by using MSSA. It doesn’t work. BTW,
    could be possible to use this “ignore overlapping window” property only when is
    needed, let’s say for a single routine? I don’t think it is feasible to use it as
    a general project property.


    If I check
    the “Ignore overlapping window” project property, the control is clicked somehow
    but on the next step (please see the second image attached “pdfsign.png”) the “Ambiguous
    object recognition” error is raised.” Sys.Process("ProcName").WinFormsObject("FrmViewPdf")”.


    I tried to resolve this issue by adding the “index” property to the
    FrmViewPdf mapped object, as you suggested. It doesn’t work.


    I
    would appreciate any good solutions on this issues.
