Chrome Test Extension shows wrong version number

I did an update from test complete 12.40.2869 to 12.42.3048.7

When using test complete version 12.40, chrome version was 61. And in the chrome extensions page, i was clearly able to see the version number of smartbear test extension  which was equal to the version of test complete installed (12.40.2869)

But after the upgrade to 12.42, and the chrome version to 64,  i no longer see the same version of the smartbear test extension. The version that i see on the chrome is 12.0.1 (the version should have been 12.42.3048.7). Is this how the behaviour be?

i am using the windows 7 machine, with all the latest windows updates.

What I have done to solve this problem?

1) uninstall test complete and google chrome

2) deleted all the temp folders created by both test complete and google chrome (user folder)

3) Installed both the test complete and chrome

4) still the same issue

5) tried to manually follow the instruction given in this page : https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/app-testing/web/general/preparing-browsers/chrome-extension.html (This did not give me any information at all. Could have been more specific instead of just being general. Like the "tcCrextension.crx" file, there is no alphanumeric_id folder in my machine)

Could someone tell me how to solve this problem? Is there any work around for this?  Am i the only one who is facing the problem?

  • Actually, 12.0.1 is the correct version.... so, my question back to you... is something, other than the version number, not working correctly for you when using Chrome and TestComplete?  If so, what?

There was a problem when after the update, there were a pop-up stating that you have a version of a test complete extension, which is not supported by the browser.

And in addition to that, the change in the version number of the smartbear test extesion, from 12.40 to 12.0.1 did not make any sense.

And there was no official documentation, to explain the released version numbers and such.
