TestComplete project execution from Jenkins

Question

I am running TestComplete project from commandline using something like below on Win7 machine for desktop app testing. It works fine when I locally run it in CMD or from a batch file. But when I try to run the same command from Jenkins 'Windows Batch module' it doesn't. I got Exit code -1. Tried to launch the batch file from Jenkins but that too did not work.

Now any normal command is working fine from Jenkins on that machine and it's only the TestComplete Execution command wouldn't work. I think I also saw Exit code 1000. Looks like it's related to licensing but I have valid and sufficient license for Desktop testing. Not sure if Jenkins remote execution needs Mobile license too?

Did anyone experience this or would know a solution? Thanks!

Nope, you can run with Test Complete, and would only need the mobile license if you're testing mobile applications from it.&nbsp;

The generic requirement for all applications that have UI and interact with end-user is to have an active desktop session.
To fit this requirement (and note that it is not TestComplete-specific, but is valid for Selenium and any other GUI application):
a) There must be active, not locked desktop session on the test computer; and
b) Jenkins agent must be started not as a service (because there is no active user session in this case even if you allow service to interact with the desktop in its settings), but as a regular application within this session.

Nothing to consider here for Smartbear. As said, the presence of interactive not locked user session is not something that is specific for TestComplete but is a generic Windows OS requirement that must be met for any UI application.
The same requirement exists, for example, for Selenium as well.&nbsp;Selenium test will fail if started for the real (i.e. not headless) browser in the locked user session or by the Selenium agent running as a service.
The only difference is that user session may be locked after the Selenium&nbsp;test is started. This is because Selenium does not mimic end-user activities with keyboard and mouse as TestComplete does, but emulates them via script code embedded into the tested web page.

I might be wrong but I think the TestComplete Jenkins plugin requires Mobile license or TestExecute. Is that correct?

But note that even this plug-in will not do all the magic :) and it is still your responsibility to provide interactive not locked user session for TestComplete and tested application.
