Importing test gives "not valid testcase xml" error message box

When I attempt to import a test suite I get a "Not valid testcase xml" error message box. 

 

I'm also unable to select the Import Suite option (Project -> Import Suite) when I've selected the root "directory" in soapui pro navigator (from readyapi 2.2).

 

I suspect both these items are related, and not finding anything online for this.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    The problem was that I was using the wrong menu option to import my XML file.  The File->Import Project successfully imports the test suite, whereas the Project->Import TestSuite option generates that error box.
