soap ui editor on mac doesn't work

Using latest version of SoapUI on Mac 10.9.5 and am unable to use the ui editor.  When I put my cursor in a request and try to make changes its like the curor is really pointing to the character two characters to the left of where my cursor is.   When I try to backspace some characters, the characters two characters to the left of where my cursor is get deleted.   This makes using the ui editor totally unusable.    HELP!     I have SoapUI running on my Windows machine and it works fine there but on my mac totally unusable.   I don't want to keep having to go to my Windows machine to use SoapUI.   What is going on here?    thanks for any help you can provide.
