Can I export custom field from test for all shown tests?

Hello,

we are playing with idea to make estimating test execution times for whole set of test, after they´ve been updated, easier and less time consuming in our company.

We are working with idea, to make custom field in QAComplete, where test owner will fill execution time for every test. Than, he can just update this custom field, whenever the test is changed. We just need to somehow be able to export this particular custom field for all shown tests (based on filter or folder) into excel file (or some other text file), so we can easily sum all the values and see the final execution time for whole field of test.

Is there any way, to easily export this particular custom field for all the tests at once? Or at least export all the fields in the way, that this particular custom field will be in one excel column, so we can work with it further?

Thanks for any suggestions

  • Hello Igni,

Thank you for your reply and the information. There is a known Comma and Semicolon Issue in Excel due to Regional Settings when opening CSV files.

What you could do is add your custom field
    - Run the 'Ad-hoc Detail - Test Library Report'
    - Select the columns you need including your custom field but don't add any Steps columns
-- The system generates a comma separated text file
-- Once you generate the .csv file, save it as a plain text file
    -- Open up Excel
-- Go to the Data tab and select From Text which allows you to specify the delimiter when you open the text file
-- Try to select 'Delimited' > Next > uncheck the 'Tab' and check the 'Comma' field > Next, Finish, Ok

  • Hello Igni,

Yes you can create a Custom Field for the execution time, but you cannot export just that one particular field.

You would do an export of all fields and simply remove the not needed columns. Please see my example video

attached and let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best Regards,

      Hello Christiane,

your video doesn`t help. There are 2 problems with your solutions.

      A) When we export listed test. we don`t have such nice table. We don`t get every field into seperate column, but they are all in one column for every testp step, only separated by comma. So it`s more work to edit the table to some usable form, than to copy listing view into excell manually.

      B) We wanted to use excel than to sum execution time from all the test in listed view, but with your solution, we can´t use that, as the time is duplicated by test steps. I know, we could than delete all the steps but one for every test, but this would again make this solutions useless, as it would be as time demanding as present system we are using.

Imagine, you have 30 * 100 tests, 10 steps each. We need fast solution, so we could for every one group from these 30 get time execution for all it`s tests (medium 100 of them). We wanted to make it more user friendly for test garants, so they could only updated execution time for changed test and QAC administrator would easilly export those execution times and sum them, so we could get execution time for whole set of test.

Thanks for any more ideas for this problems.
