Work with Windows PopupMenu in Windows 7 and XP

Hi!

I have to launch many tests with many Windows OS like Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows Vista. My problem is when I launch my test scenario in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, I don't have the same name of windows menuitem compared windows XP. 



For example:

in Windows XP  we have -> PopupMenu.Click("cut");

in WIndows 7 and Vista  we have ->  PopupMenu.Click("[3]");



Have you a solution to recover the true name of the popup menu item in Windows Vista and Seven but not the index?

    hi!

    I find the solution!To work with the Caption on (PopupMenu MSDN Windows), on Windows Seven or Vista, You have to go Tools >Default Project Property > Text Recognition and add your ClassName : for example for me->  #32768 : it's work with TestComplete Enterprise . After that, when you Inspect the object , the property Name will change ->  TextObject("ItemCaption"). So you can work with Caption!

    Hi,


    If you know the menu item's index, you can obtain a reference to the item and then use the MenuItem.Caption property to return the menu item's caption.


    For example:




    ...

    Set Item =  PopupMenu.Items(3)

    ItemCaption = Item.Caption

    Call PopupMenu.Click(ItemCaption)

    .....

    The difficulty is going to be whether or not "Click(ItemCaption)" will work.  There are some cases where, because of the way the menu is rendered, the captions are not available to TestComplete, only the indices.  



    So, while the code posted above will work great for getting the caption, it might not work for actually clicking on the item based on the caption due to the way the menu is drawn.

    To help you resolve the problem, we need to know what application you are testing, what type of menu it uses, what the difference between the menus when the application is run under different operating systems is. Could you please let us know all of these?

    Hi!

    I work with a Interop application -> developped in WPF and Delphi so when I click right in a Delphi or WPF window I have a PopupMenu .This PopupMenu is in "Windows"  its WndClass = #32768 . Its a standard PopupMenu developped by Windows.

    I launch many tests scenarios who use this PopupMenu , in Windows XP, Vista and Seven. So When I am in Windows XP OS, to click a Item in this PopupMenu , I do:



    var object = Aliases.MyApplication.MyWindows ;

    object.PopupMenu.Click("ItemCaption");



    In Windows Vista or Seven I must do:



    var object = Aliases.MyApplication.MyWindows ;

    object.PopupMenu.Click("[ItemIndex]");



    I must to launch a test scenario in Windows XP,Vista,Seven : so I must work with the ItemCaption and not the Index because at times a Item is enabled and not visible. Therefore the Index is wrong.



    My question is how to catch the PopupMenu ->ItemCaption in Windows 7 and windows Vista?

    This MSDN Windows PopupMenu is always the same in Windows XP and Windows Seven or Windows Vista because it's a standard PopupMenu Microsoft Windows  -> #32768

    Okay, reading over this thread and gelling on it for a while, suddenly it's starting to sound somewhat familiar.



    I know we're dealing with operating system differences (XP versus Vista/7), however it seems like the differences being described sound like the difference between owner-drawn menus and other menus in regular applications.  See Working With Owner-Drawn and Bitmap Menus



    In light of that, have you tried using the Text Recognition feature? That may be the way to go with this so you can pass in the text and have it recognize the proper item.
