Fail to send e-mails

Question

I am configuring the Email settings of the server. I have a few questions:

1. I see that I can configure the user and password of the smtp account but the documentation says "If your email server is Exchange you will need to get your Exchange administrator to enable anonymous SMTP." Is this still accurate with version 9.1.9100? I am using Exchange so I would need to enabled anonymous SMTP?

2. I am trying to send a test email and I keep getting: "Error: Error sending email: Could not connect to SMTP host". I tried it with my Exchange server but I also tried it with outlook.com and gmail.com SMTP servers and I experience the same issue. I changed the log settings to debug but I don't have more information on this error from the log.

Anyone experienced this issue? What settings do you use if you are using an internal Exchange server? Or gmail or hotmail servers?

I had the wrong settings for gmail so I got it work. I still have question 1 though.

Could you tell me how you got gmail to work? I'm getting an error when setting it up. I've enabled pop, and used the port as per gmail instructions here: https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/6323470 What could be wrong?

Hi,&nbsp;Tanks. &nbsp;I now get a message saying:&nbsp;Error: Error sending email: 534-5.7.14 Please log in via your web browser and 534-5.7.14 then try again. 534-5.7.14 Learn more at 534 5.7.14 https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754 f11sm35011502wmf.22 - gsmtp&nbsp;Which indicates I'm using the wrong password. &nbsp;I've verified that the password is correct by logging into the gmail user account. So, I'm out of ideas :)

I have just checked this setup for "gmail.com" and it correctly works. Most probably, the problem is on your account security level. Please try to use the tips below:
* Go to http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and click continue (this will grant access for 10 minutes for registering new apps).* If the first tip doesn't help, try to check the access option for apps.
