Map child object of parent object with extended find activated

Hi.

I am using name mapping.

I followed the instruction of this page http://support.smartbear.com/viewarticle/12466/

It is working okay so far but I have an issue as soon as I am trying to map child of existing mapped object.

Even though the object parent is correctly recognized in the namemapping editor, when I want to map one of his child, testcomplete prompt me the

"To map the selected object, you must also map the following parent objects of this object".

Is there any solution for this stupid problem ?

Thanks.

By the way, you should take a look at the activation message send automatically for the forum registration.

The link is http://smartbear.com/registration/activation/ but this it leads to a 404 pages.

The correct one, is actually http://community.smartbear.com/registration/activation/

    Hi, Jean...

No, so far that problem you described still exists.  I've noted it myself and have simply worked around it by allowing the mapping to happen as they want it to and then dragging the resulting child map to the parent that I want.

One thing that I've done to mitigate this is that, if I can, map everything out FIRST and then set up the extended find.

As for your 404 problem, SmartBear recently restructured their website and such.  Looks like you found a link that hasn't been updated yet.

    Hum.

Thanks for your answer. I already started with your technique as I also found out it was the only one.

    But honestly, it's really painful.

Do you guys plan to solve this as it seems that name mapping work top to bottom but not bottom to top ?

    Regards,

    Jean.

    My bad :).

If any SmartBear employee read those lines, feel free to answer the question.

  • Hi Jean,

We've fixed the link. As for Name Mapping - you're right, it starts searching for objects from the root node and I'm not sure how this behavior can be changed. Could you please describe the alternative objects recognition approach you suggest in detail?
